Artist Statement

Rocks have fascinated me since I was a child; instilled in me by my dad who was interested in geology, and by mom who collected them. So this book began as an idea to paint rocks spelling words relating to rocks. I love that the rocks were painted with rocks, using watercolors made from rocks. Writing my own Haiku and text adds another meaningful layer. The Japanese character and style of lettering is also a nod to dad, an engineer whose handwriting was printing, always carefully and precisely written. He passed away years ago in Spring but remains in my heart.
