Our 2023 Challenge Book prompt “What Dreams Are Made Of” invited so many creative responses, and we’re delighted to share the winning books here. Viewers Choice Award voters selected three winners:
- Insiya Dhatt’s Dreams. Dhatt says about her piece, “One gets to weave their own dreams and aspirations into the artwork as they carefully thread and construct the mobile. The books act as blank canvases, inviting personal stories, musings, and reflections to be added.”
- Kristi Galbraith’s Montana Dreamin’. The artist explains, when “I started thinking about how dreams and memories blend together for me, especially with my photos – my concept came together. My collection of Montana photos has grown and grown, so I wanted a place to showcase some of my favorites – as well as experiment with using a paintbrush filter on all the photos…. I learned a lot while making this book – and it was so much fun!”
- Magdéleine Ferru’s Bleu comme le chat, l’oiseau et plus encore (Blue like the cat, the bird and even more). The artist says her piece “walks the line between the two-dimensional and three- dimensional: mixing photography and alternative analog technics with sculptural books and other plastic art; I upcycle, make, create, mixing matter to my visual work, inviting the viewer to dream and wander, to another reality that they can reinterpret in their own way.”
Congratulations to these winners, and to all who participated in the 2023 Challenge Book prompt! We’ll be featuring insights and more information about the winners in upcoming FOBA newsletters, so stay tuned!
