Artist Statement
At heart I am a lover of things with a history. Family genealogy was once a great passion of mine, and I have collected many historical items, photos, and documents throughout my lifetime.
I create rustic, mixed-media artists books that serve as vessels for the past. Using my collection of original vintage papers and fabrics and vintage-inspired ephemera, I combine the art of collage with traditional bookbinding to reclaim history. My work is a tactile exploration of nostalgia, where every page is a layer of time, and every book is an invitation to hold a fragment of a forgotten story. I believe that by repurposing the remnants of yesterday, we can create something meaningful and enduring for today.
Materials and Techniques
Interactive lap book with lots of folds, flaps, and vintage fun. To make this book I used old book covers, book board, digitally printed ephemera, found vintage and vintage-inspired collage ephemera, handmade paper, vintage and vintage-inspired hardware and inclusions, and acrylic paint.
