Artist Statement
Biáng is a Chinese character that forms part of the name of a Shaanxi noodle dish, biángbiángmiàn. It is famously complicated to write and has an 11-line poem to remember the 58 strokes. This book details the poem in both Chinese and English, and is made to look like one giant noodle in a bowl. The paper has pepper flake inclusions to mimic the chili oil often used in the dish.
Materials and Techniques
Accordion book covered in reclaimed wall scroll fabric. Hand-painted cover decorations. Printed on handmade abaca paper with crushed red pepper inclusions.
