Artist Statement
The Hood River valley in Oregon where I live is full of apple and pear orchards. During harvest these tall ladders swing and clang through the orchard as the bountiful pear harvest is picked by hand.
I experiment with monotype, collagraph, relief, intaglio, and lithography. My creative process relies on the intuitive, informed by my senses, surroundings, and experiences. A sense of adventures spurs my exploration into divergent themes—from identity and place to the mystical, from earthiness to the divine. The allure of colorful birds, the vigor of animals, the radiant power of ascendant women, and the generative forces of Earth inform my work.
Materials and Techniques
An original collagraph print pulled from a collagraph plate. Collagraph comes from the French word “coller”—to glue and graph for graphic arts. The plate is built up with found objects and cut out shapes; in this case, cardstock and plastic tablecloth lace .The plate is glued, sealed and hand-inked before passing through the press twice.
