Artist Statement

I made this art book project in a five-day “Hidden Worlds” online workshop instructed by Lesley Patterson-Marx through San Diego Book Arts. The miniature books were designed as blank journals, but I prefer my books to have content. I decided to feature photographs of art in all its beautiful forms that I encountered in India. Other personal touches added as I assembled this work include a magnetic clasp, photographs on the box spine, my own marbled paper, box dividers and ribbons to help lift the miniature books from their homes, and an empty mesh bag of unknown origin that matches the theme and protects the books. I adore this art book for countless reasons and am thrilled that my vision for it came together so perfectly.

Materials and Techniques

The box enclosure is made from a repurposed Reader’s Digest hardcover edition. The seven miniature books inside include: (1) mini matchbox case-bound book; (2) two mini matchbox pamphlet books; (3) mini matchbox accordion book; (4) pop-up accordion sampler; (5) longstitch book; (6) buttonhole stitch book. The spine of the box, as well as the books, feature pictures, primarily of public art sites and installations, from my “incredible journey” to India in 2023.
