Little Ginnie At Play illustrates the depth and variety possible in a small artist’s tunnel book. The view changes markedly by even a small shift in the viewpoint. At one angle my brother and I (at six) are found beside a snowman. Moving further to the left our neighbor, Bobby, comes in sight. Shifting the view to the right reveals me (at 12) alone in a snow bank. The tunnel structure allows me to easily add connected stories to the same book. Finally, I started the front of the book with the image of the street corner below my childhood home. I ended the book with a photo of that childhood home, elevated above the street. From beginning to end, Little Ginnie At Play is a potent memory of my childhood, further enhanced by the grainy black and white prints.
Family photos of my childhood house and street corner along with my brother and neighbor and me at two ages were scanned and manipulated in Photoshop. The resulting images were inkjet printed on Epson premium presentation matte photo paper. The individual frames are backed with a layer of card stock for greater strength. The back of the book is black 4-ply archival mat board.
