Artist Statement

This multi-part, tiered-box artist book investigates ochre as both color and material trace. The work comprises two interrelated books housed within a three-tiered tray box with a magnetic closure. One unfolds as an accordion of layered monoprints across board panels, paired with letterpress and handwritten plant specimen cards on the reverse. The second, a sculptural volume with an altered wood cover, gathers research, material fragments, and paper samples, extending an exploration of texture, weight, and tonal variation. Each tier of the box contains found and altered specimens, organizing the work as a field of associations between plant, mineral, and landscape—revealing ochre as a spectrum of traces, signals, and meanings drawn from the natural world.
