Artist Statement

This book was a practice for designing with multiple kinds of leather techniques. The binding was also a practice for learning a new binding structure. The inspiration for the design came to me from the colors of my original goatskin, which reminded me of the colors of a sun-baked southwestern desert landscape and the colorful desert plants that grow there.

Materials and Techniques

This is a simplified binding in leather. Goatskin leather covers and spine in two colors with inlays and onlays in goatskin and lacunose, hand tooling, debasing, and sanding techniques to create the design. Leather end-bands, hand-painted endsheets.
