Artist Statement
Eadem mutata resurgo. Though transformed, I will remain unchanged.
The title is a quote by 17th Swiss mathematician, Jakob Bernoulli. These words are also engraved into his tombstone. Images, diagrams, and equations reference the inherent nature of fractal geometry through the continual appearance of the logarithmic spiral. Fractal shapes form the design of our natural world. Yet as humans we are imbued with dualities—chance versus strategy, faith versus reason, serendipity versus design. The patterns in fractal geometry, juxtaposed with the equations that describe them, exemplify our relationship to and separation from nature.
