FOBA had the great opportunity to have two stellar book artists give
Keynote addresses at the 2015 conference. For the first time in the conference history we filmed them, and are posting them for general viewing.
Hedi Kyle: Four Decades under the Spell of the Book
In her talk, “Four Decades under the Spell of the Book,” Hedi Kyle recounts her early experiences in the experimental stages in book conservation and book arts. Her work focuses on the book as a three-dimensional object, creating unusual forms that free the book of its traditional purpose and explore new ways for reading and viewing. At the end of this talk Hedi reviews many samples of such work.
Shu-Ju Wang: Creating Artist’s Books
In “Creating Artist’s Books,” Shu-Ju Wang discusses her methods of creating artist’s books. She shows examples of solo and collaborative works, explaining her process of creating layered narratives the invite the viewer back again and again. Shu-Ju’s work often focuses on the profound and sometimes catastrophic transformations of our lives, addressing current issues we face daily.
