Artist Statement
F is for France was created specifically for an ABC book exhibit called “Books as Art 4” that was held by the Northwoods Book Arts Guild in Fairbanks, Alaska, in June 2025. It features photos, maps, and paper weavings inspired by my travels in France, and covers some of the most memorable places we visited. All color photographs are my original images; I collected various maps were while traveling; and I sourced other antique maps online. I enjoyed the challenge of designing and weaving each letter that appears in the book, and coming up with complementary photos to represent the other letters.
Materials and Techniques
Reverse piano-hinge album holding various 4-layer paper weavings, photography, maps, and collage. Spine, inside cover wraps, and weavings include marbled paper created by me. All supporting papers are from my stash from when I was working as a graphic designer, so they are essentially upcycled sample sheets.
