Artist Statement
Alternating Currents is an electrically charged artist book featuring custom weavings, definitions, and stamped letters to highlight the range of words, feelings, and memories that are stirred up when talking about electricity.
Materials and Techniques
Handmade papers are bound together using a Larks Head binding, with copper wire at the spine. Copper wire is woven into some of the pages, and used to attach the antique light switch on the cover. Kristi embedded or stitched threads into the pages, made from recycled cotton fabric, blue jeans, and scrap paper. Suminagashi marbled dictionary pages and woven paste papers round out the inclusions.
