Artist Statement

As an art student in college, I studied the contemporary painter Georgia O’Keeffe. Her work was significant to me because I’d recently visited New Mexico for the first time with an artist friend whose family was from the Land of Enchantment. O’Keeffe died in 1986, four years after I graduated with a BA in art. I finally moved to New Mexico in 1997, and the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum opened in Santa Fe two months later. This work is based on “Georgia O’Keeffe” by poet and playwright Terre Ouwehand of Old Hand Press. It appeared in her book Voices From The Well 2: Portraits of Extraordinary Women (used with permission; all rights reserved).
