Volunteer Benefit Program Details

FOBA’s Volunteer Benefit Program allows volunteers who provide significant planning and execution support to receive registration benefits:

  • 50 hours of volunteering: early signup
  • 100 hours of volunteering: 1 free day of a workshop (not including materials fees)
  • 200 hours of volunteering: 2 free days of workshops (not including materials fees)

Guidelines

  • The number of hours begin at the end of one conference and extend through the following conference (i.e., July 1, 2024 to June 28, 2026). This is a 2-year period of time.
  • To participate in this program, volunteers agree to track the hours they spend working with FOBA and to provide those hours to their team lead for review and approval. A good free program to use to track hours is: https://clockify.me/
  • Because registration occurs approximately 4 months before the upcoming conference, volunteers will estimate (and commit their efforts to that estimate) during that 4 next months, including time to be spent volunteering during the conference. This estimate must be approved by their team lead prior to registration. Volunteers who do not meet that commitment will be expected to reimburse FOBA.
  • Volunteer hours to qualify for early signup must be incurred by mid-February of the year of the conference.
  • Room and board will be included for all volunteers who: 1) have more than 100 hours and 2) have significant responsibilities during the conference that necessitate on-site presence. This includes (but is not limited to) those involved in setup, take-down, day manager responsibilities, and working on the check-in/information desk during the conference.

If a volunteer qualifies for the benefit but chooses to not participate in the benefit, they may at their option:

  • Not use the benefit and “give” back to FOBA, or
  • Donate the benefit to the Fellowship program

If the volunteer gives up the benefit, FOBA can (upon their request) give them a letter that verifies the donation to FOBA, which is a 501(c)(3) organization, with a value of the benefit based on the number of days of a workshop.
