Fran McReynolds – The Butterfly Book

Artist Statement

This book included a series of first-time experiences for me, including working with wooden covers, binding on cords, heat transfer images, and a somewhat challenging headband. I enjoyed the process.

Materials & Technique

This is a collection of stories about butterflies downloaded from the public domain and laid out using iStudio on a MacIntosh computer. The stories were printed on Mohawk Superfine paper. The Shina plywood covers were illustrated using a laser-print heat transfer process, augmented with hand coloring. Paste paper section wrappers were created and then the signatures were sewn on cords with the addition of the caterpillar stretch across the spine and at the headband.
