Elsi Vassdal Ellis – Maribelle’s Compulsion

Artist Statement

Having experienced traditional domestication when young, I return to working with quilting fabrics to share stories of women working in the same way. The fabrics used for Maribelle’s Compulsion are scraps too large or beautiful to throw away. This book is part of an ongoing collection under the theme of “waste-not, want-not”. This book is the first of a series of quilting stories about a long line of related women dating from the Civil War to the 1940s in a family with Biblical names who are self-employed seamstresses and quilters.
