Genevieve Kaplan – May I

FOBA 2021 Challenge Book

Technique and materials used:

I used a seed catalogue page, yellow cardstock I hand-printed with mint leaves from my garden, double-sided tape, and ink in creating my book. The book form is the “Guest Book” from Alisa Golden’s Making Handmade Books. A new form for me!

About the work:

In the past year, I’ve spent so much time in my backyard! I wanted to create a book that captured both the confining feel and the freedom that tending my garden brought me. Growing vegetables has been particularly rewarding, and I wanted to celebrate them in May I. The last page spread in the book, which reads “might you / join me” speaks to the need for human (as well as vegetable and insect) companionship, too.
