Michele Kamprath – Desert Dreams/Redwood Home

FOBA 2021 Challenge Book

Technique and materials used:

This structure is an accordion with a wrap-around cover/enclosure. The paper used for the accordion and the signatures was eco-dyed with maple, alder, redwood, and other local plants.

One of the papers was dyed with blueberries. The pictures are a rendition of local areas using acrylics, ink, and other mixed media. The cover wrapper paper is mixed media paste paper as demonstrated by artist Suzanne Moore. The colors depict the beautiful red sandstone of southern Utah. Waxed linen thread was used for the sewing and embellishment and for the closure.

About the work:

Desert Dreams/Redwood Home came from the FOBA theme idea. My book celebrates living in the beautiful redwoods and coastal area of far Northern California but also celebrates loving the desert, especially the red rocks of Utah and especially in the spring.
